Selenoinsulin was prepared and found to be long-lasting against degradation by IDE (April, 2017)

Insulin, a small protein secreted from islets of Langerhans in the pancreas, regulates blood glucose levels and has been widely used as a medication for diabetic patients. Our group recently succeeded in the synthesis of a new-type long-acting insulin analogue, selenoinsulin, with collaborations of Professor Kenji Inaba’s group in Tohoku University and Professor Hironobu Hojo’s group in Osaka University. Selenoinsulin would be utilized to supplement basal secretion of insulin to control the glucose level for an entire day. This achievement was published on 10 April 2017 in the electric version of Angewandte Chemie International Edition.
