Shingo Shimodaira, a doctor course student in our laboratory, is working on chemical synthesis of selenium-containing amino acid, selenocysteine, and the peptides, which contain selenocysteine as an ingredient. He received a poster award in the last day of the 42nd Symposium on Main Group Element Chemistry, which was held on December 3-5, 2015 in Nagoya University. He presented a new synthetic method of selenoglutathione, which is a unique tripeptide having an antioxidant activity against reactive oxygen species. His achievement will be useful for future study on biological activities of selenoglutathione and the related selenopeptides.
