Our paper was selected as a very important paper (VIP) in Chemistry A European Journal. (February, 2011)

Our research paper written by Ph.D student Kenta Arai was selected as a very important paper (VIP) in a high impact chemistry journal "Chemistry A European Journal" (K. Arai, K. Dedachi, M. Iwaoka, Chem. Eur. J., 2011, 17(2), 481–485). The title is "Rapid and Quantitative Disulfide Bond Formation for a Polypeptide Chain Using a Cyclic Selenoxide Reagent in an Aqueous Medium." In this paper, K. Arai investigated the oxidative folding reaction of hirudin, a small protein with three SS bonds in the native state, and found that the SS formation reaction proceeds in a stochastic manner by using a new selenium oxidant DHSox, which was developed in our laboratory. Protein folding is related with various diseases, such Alzheimer and BSE, so the results will be important for elucidation of mechanisms of the diseases. The paper was also selected for the cover picture of the issue.
