JSPS-DST international exchange program, collaborative research (from October, 2008)

Selenium is an essential element in our body, and the unique antioxidant biological activities have attracted large interest recently. So, it is becoming important to elaborate the catalytic reaction mechanisms of selenoenzymes, such as glutathione peroxidase. In this collaborative research, it is targeted to obtain new GPx mimics with high antioxidant catalytic activities. F. Kumakura, a Ph. D student, went to Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), India in March 2009 and did experiment there. The photo is from his poster presentation in the national meeting held in Nainital.
